Esther was in the final chapter of her life. Her dementia had progressed, and the situation surrounding her care had become urgent. Her daughter needed to find a place where Esther could pass not just safely, but peacefully — with dignity, comfort, and human compassion.

In a desperate search for what they called a “dying home,” they found Jacob’s Ladder — a nonprofit end-of-life legacy home in Springfield, Missouri. Within 24 hours, Esther was welcomed with open arms.

And for the first time in days, her daughter could breathe.

At Jacob’s Ladder, Esther was given more than a bed — she was given warmth, reverence, and peace. Her room cost less than a night at a hotel, thanks to Jacob’s Ladder’s sliding scale model, which ensures no one is turned away due to financial hardship.

But the truth is — we can only continue doing this with your help.

Jacob’s Ladder is almost entirely funded by donations. Every dollar helps cover the costs of compassionate care: hospice-trained staff, round-the-clock support, meals, medication assistance, and most of all — the loving environment every person deserves in their final days.

Founded in 2019 by Camelia Jacob and her husband — longtime professionals in residential care — Jacob’s Ladder was born from a single, deeply human moment: a dying man who simply needed a comfortable place to pass. That moment became a calling.

Today, Jacob’s Ladder is a 3,200-square-foot home with two dedicated hospice suites, residential care rooms, family gathering spaces, and overnight accommodations for loved ones. Every detail has been designed to support one simple mission:

To provide peace, dignity, and comfort to people in their final days.

But keeping that mission alive depends on you.
